As a parrent of an eight year old in a small town, I was sickened to hear
the words"crack" and "crystal meth in the local schools!I've thought
about home schooling more than once{trust me}but iI don't believe this to be the answer. In my opinion I think as parrents we have to get a very
early start.I am 39 years old and alot has changed since I was a kid.
When I was a teenager and told to go to my room and reflect on what I had done{not a peep young lady!} usually worked. Today when kids are sent to their rooms, with their ps2's game cubes, dvd's, msn messengers
text messages ect........what in the world is happening? In this day and age everything seems to be so frantic, usually with both parrents working.
As a parent who works alot, I've caught myself more than once, giving into my childs wishes, but this is not the answer.we had a power outage not too long ago, so my son and I sat around telling ghost stories, and being goofy.{it was fun} Just recently he told me how bored he was and he wished the power was out again! That hit home hard! Patty

When are children are saying the terms "crack" and "crystal" it is time to talk with them and educate them about what these things really are. If my 8 year old was talking about it -or it was part of the vernacular in their peer group-I would take it as a sign that a rational and educational talk was needed. They are ready to hear it.

(I would rather send them to the kitchen to do the dishes and Think about it there! Laughing)

sorry. just to get a few facts straight......I didn't hear that from my 8 year old. I was meerly trying to say that as parents, we have to keep the lines of communication open always. there isn't a cut off period.
The story from many parents (far and long)is far too common.
kids needto know you are there, and communicate on a daily basis.
kids need you, to just be there no matter what. I find that there are too many electronic babysitters theese days. this is comming from someone
who "once was a kid"

Hi Patty- Yes, I was just sounding off, not directly at you, but anyone dropping in to read posts... Smile My son is very young- born after my own addiction to meth was conquered Very Happy and I am So Blessed! I will have to find the time to give him attention and respectful communication at every stage- and not rely on electronics to amuse him. Thanks, PS! Smile
